The Opportunity:
Markel international is the perfect place to kick-start your career in the insurance industry and we are seeking a passionate apprentice to join our Wholesale Claims team. Throughout the structured training programme you will be supported by Claims Adjusters and Senior Claims Adjusters, whom all have extensive knowledge and experience in their field. Markel’s supportive management style and training will make you a well-rounded claims professional, significantly enhancing your career development through the many progressive opportunities available.
The award-winning claims team that manages claims arising from our seven core business lines; Marine, Energy, Equine, Trade Credit Political Risk and Surety, Professional and Financial Risks, Cyber and International Casualty.
As an apprentice on the Wholesale Claims programme, you will be assigned to the Equine claims team. You will be surrounded by a friendly and collaborative team who will support you in completing your Level 3 Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship.
What you’ll be doing:
As a trainee Claims Technician you’ll become a key part of the Equine team, delivering a market leading claims service. Within the programme you will:
- Take part in structured training conducted by senior employees with an extensive amount of knowledge in the industry to ultimately help successful candidates learn the fundamentals of insurance.
- Shadow senior adjusters, learning best practices and advanced claims handling techniques.
- Provide administrative and data management support, ensuring accuracy and compliance across systems.
- Progress to handling claims under supervision, building technical expertise in claims processes.
- Actively participate in team meetings and contribute to departmental projects, supporting collaborative initiatives in claims and the wider business.
- Attend meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders, gaining exposure to industry relationships.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation, supporting regulatory and operational standards.
- Respond promptly to broker, insured and third-party requests, delivering excellent client service.
- Assist with data reporting and research, supporting strategic decision-making.
- Help to coordinate and attend broker events, developing networking and relationship-building skills.
- Attend regular check-ins to review performance so that you have every opportunity to progress and gain more autonomy within your role.
- Work towards your Certificate in Insurance via your apprenticeship.

- Have achieved, or are predicted, 3 A-levels grade C or above or grades equivalent to 96 UCAS points.
- Achieved GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4 or C or above (or equivalent qualification).
