Job Description: Marine Claims Lead
How does this role contribute to our collective success?
This role contributes to AXIS’ collective success through maintaining and promoting a market leading claims service to support clients’ complex risks and challenges and in so doing to support the retention and acquisition of business.
What will you do in this role?
- Lead the AXIS Global Markets Marine Claims Team being a market leading team of 6 claims specialists handling marine claims for a wide variety of clients and reporting to the Head of Energy & Marine Claims.
- Provide guidance, oversight and authority on complex coverage and liability issues, reserve evaluations and claim resolution strategies. The portfolio of claims includes claims arising in international jurisdictions and are a mix of lead and follow, primary and excess and company and syndicate.
- Work closely with claims management, external legal advisors, TPAs, market leaders and brokers to ensure that the highest standard of technical claims handling and customer service is provided consistently across the team.
- Ensure that reserves are entered as quickly and accurately as possible in accordance with AXIS’ reserving philosophy.
- Monitor KPIs and ensure that all AXIS’ processes and procedures are followed and all regulatory and corporate governance requirements are met.
- Report internally on the claims portfolio and large losses.
- Liaise with underwriters on wording issues and the provision of claims information and attend client meetings as appropriate.
- Liaise with other internal stakeholders (actuarial, finance, reinsurance) as appropriate.
- Maintain a highly engaged team. Maximise working in a hybrid environment, create equitable opportunities for employees and promote a flexible, high-performance culture regardless of where we work.
- Set goals for direct reports and hold ongoing feedback discussions and provide coaching to continue developing direct reports, including the holding of Mid-Year conversations and Year-End Reviews.
- Oversee recruitment when required.

About You:

What you need to have:
- Strong technical marine insurance knowledge and ability to manage complex claims. This includes cargo, specie, liability, war and hull risks worldwide.
- Will have worked in a syndicate or company and gained sufficient experience to perform the above duties and responsibilities.
- Some people management / oversight experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to articulately present in meetings.
- Ability to develop and sustain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to prioritise and organise workload.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment.
What we prefer you to have:
- Prior experience in a senior claims role.
- Knowledge of ECF2 and market wide claims systems
- Experience with Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Docosoft.
- Professional qualification within Insurance or equivalent.
